The European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN) has adopted amendments related to driving times and rest periods for drivers working in the tourism industry driving coaches.
This means drivers can divide their 45-minute break into periods of at least 15 minutes. Therefore, they do not have to divide their breaks into the current 15 and 30 minutes, and can take three breaks lasting 15 minutes each.
Additionally, if their trip lasts longer than 6 days, they can benefit from extending their maximum driving time by an additional hour. Another important change is the possibility of starting another 12 periods of driving a coach as part of domestic transport (until now, this was only possible when the transport was international).
TRAN also plans to create a special website for diagnosis and storing inspection documentation. This website is to be available in many languages, just like the current IMI system. It is possible that a place for storing transport documentation will be associated with this platform. This procedure would make it much easier for the transport industry to work on a daily basis within one internet space.
If the legislative process goes according to plan, the above changes will come into force in 2024 and thus improve the existing legal regulations related to the organization of work of bus drivers. The changes look very promising and fill the tourism industry with optimism. We will monitor the situation on this topic for you on an ongoing basis, and we will inform you about further changes in a separate article.
The Tachospeed Expert software will be updated with any new guidelines that appear and apply to the transport industry. Remember to always use the latest version of the program so that the reports (documents) you generate comply with the current law
